How to Search the DatabaseThe Search Screen for the Whitehorse Manningham Local History Database provides two options for searching - Basic Search and Advanced Search. Basic Search The symbol % for AND can be used to combine terms in a field to narrow a search.
A search for schools%Blackburn (no spaces either side of %) in the Basic Search will reduce the number of records in the search. The report form provides the title of an item, type of item (book, photograph, article) and code for the organisation holding the item. Click on the selected title to view the required record. Advanced Search
Fields in the Advanced Search option are Subjects, Publication type, Location Code and Author. The Boolean buttons AND and OR beside the boxes can be used to combine fields in the search. For example:

Images and Addresses in the DatabaseImages in the Database A selection of images can be located in the Whitehorse Manningham Local History Database. To locate images use the Basic Search. Type a word or term (eg. Goldmining) in the Basic Search box. Select the Search for Images only button Select the Basic Search button to carry out the search. The symbol % for AND can be used to combine terms in a search. For example: a search for schools%Doncaster (no spaces either side of the %) will produce the images in the database relating to Doncaster schools. Search for selected images on topics including:
Searches can also be made for images of localities including Warrandyte, Doncaster, Mitcham, Box Hill, Blackburn and Templestowe. Images are available for research purposes only. Copies of photographs can be ordered from the historical society holding the image. Addresses in the Database Information about the building or site at a specific address can be located in the Whitehorse Manningham Local History Database. Addresses of specific buildings or sites in the database are listed by suburb, street, number.
To locate a specific address use the Basic Search. Type the name of a street in the Basic Search box. Select the Search for Addresses only Button. Select the Basic Search button to carry out the search. For roads that cover more than one suburb use the symbol % for AND to search for the suburb and the road. For example: Box Hill%Whitehorse Road (no spaces either side of the %). The search can be further narrowed by including the number of the building For example: Box Hill%Whitehorse Road%1020 (no spaces either side of the %).
